Thermal insulation blankets (often called removable insulation covers or "lagging") are essential for managing heat, protecting equipment, and ensuring workplace safety.
A high-quality thermal insulation blanket is typically constructed in three layers:
1. Outer Jacket (The Protective Layer) This layer protects the insulation from environmental factors like chemicals, UV rays, and physical wear.
• Silicone-Coated Fiberglass: The most common choice; it is water-resistant and handles moderate temperatures.
• PTFE (Teflon) Coated Glass Cloth: Used in highly corrosive environments where chemical resistance is critical.
• Aluminized Cloth: Used for reflecting radiant heat.
2. Insulation Core (The Heat Barrier) This is the "heart" of the blanket that prevents heat transfer.
• Fiberglass Mat/Needled Felt: Standard for temperatures up to 540°C (1000°F).
• Ceramic Fiber Blanket: Used for high-heat industrial applications, capable of withstanding over 1000°C.
• Mineral Wool: Excellent for fire protection and acoustic insulation.
3. Inner Lining (The Contact Layer)
This layer sits directly against the hot surface.
• Stainless Steel Mesh: Often used for extremely high temperatures to maintain structural integrity.
• Plain Fiberglass Cloth: Suitable for standard applications.
Thermax provides high performance industrial fabrics, blankets and engineered solutions—featuring ultra-low thermal conductivity, superior flexibility & durability, strong chemical/UV resistance, and asbestos-free, halogen-free safety.
